ABOUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SOUTHEAST BC

Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC (Habitat Southeast BC) is a local Southeast British Columbia Habitat for Humanity Canada group. We are a non-profit housing organization that empowers families through affordable home ownership.

Habitat for Humanity’s home ownership model empowers families to invest in home ownership. Through volunteer labour, efficient management and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner (partner) families.

Habitat homes are sold to partner families with no down payment required and are financed with affordable, no-interest mortgages. Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund, which is used by affiliates to build more homes for more families in need.

The agency partners with local suppliers to provide building materials either free or at cost, and the homeowners’ zero-interest long-term mortgage payments are used to fund future projects.  With the support of volunteers, homes are constructed, while land is often donated by municipalities or regional districts.
